S.M.A.K., the Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art, was founded in 1999. The collection at S.M.A.K. mainly exhibits European modern art from 1945 through contemporary art. The museum has pieces from artistic trends including Cobra, pop art, minimalism, conceptual art and arte povera by artists who now belong to the best of the best in the world.
